Happy New Year! Last year was a huge leap for me as a fashion designer, as an individual and for the brand, AIISHA. I took cut-throat decisions, which I’m still processing. I finally saw the whole picture after taking a step back, and I’m loving it. After focusing for so long on my Couture line, the brand launched few high end Ready-to-Wear collections or what has come to be known as Ready Couture. One collection after the other, then came our Spring Summer 2017 was launched in our New York showroom in Manhattan, Lotus Threads.
Every time I took my daughter to the theme park, we took one turn after the other together mesmerized by the colors, the lights and the magic that this moment brought on to us. I found myself sketches horses on pols, roller coasters, Cinderella carriages, a little girl with her balloons and much more to depict the vision I had in my heart and that took me back to a childhood trapped in a body of a grown up woman.
I presented this collection in a lookbook shot by Samuel John as well as at the Arab Fashion Week in Dubai, UAE, in November 2016. The presence, the vibe, the love.. was unbelievable. No words could describe what I saw in people’s eyes. It was a huge success – to say the least!
The models hair and makeup for both the lookbook and the fashion show was designed by my dear friend hair stylist and makeup artist Kaya Guerreiro Yasmine. For the lookbook, Kaya opted for a very natural look on our model Dominika Robak. As for the fashion show, we went for plain eyes and striking black lipstick with black glitter. Along with our looks were ALDO classic shoes that pulled off every look with a classic and elegant twist.
The highlight of our Spring Summer 2017 fashion show at the Arab Fashion Week was our model Rafeea Alhajsi who opened our red series story. A beautiful half Emirati half Lebanese brunette model with real curves. She represented the AIISHA woman. A passionate confident woman who’s beautiful inside out and who embraces her uniqueness. I was thrilled to see the UAE’s first model walk my runway. It was a true pleasure and a privilege to work with her as well as the rest of the models from our show.
